Stop hiding behind your God, stop hiding behind your children, and stop hiding behind cheap words written on pieces of paper. How great can a country be when it denies its own citizens a natural right? What is the quality of person who denies another the right to be human?
In an effort to win this war, and I use that term loosely, this country has killed over 100,000 Iraqis and has displaced over 400,00 Iraqi citizens, we have spit on the constitution by enforcing the Patriot Act, and we tortured prisoners of war. We have broken laws in "order to keep this country safe" yet we continue to fire gay members of the military. So it is okay physically harm detainees but to allow gay people to fight for this country is taking it too far? This is not about the military, this is not about that soldier's unit, this is about discrimination. This is about denying someone their job based upon their sexuality.
In countless states they deny gay couples the right to adopt; in Florida it is illegal for any gay person to adopt. 80,000 children go un-adopted every year; 80,000 children who would be more than happy to move into any type of home regardless of the sexuality. Every gay person has come from a heterosexual couple, so the argument that homosexuality breeds homosexuality is complete fallacy. A loving household is what a child needs regardless of the sexuality of the parents.
At this moment I would probably yell, curse, and slander anyone who disagreed with my views; that hasn't got me very far. This isn't about your beliefs, this isn't about your God; this is about you finding the empathy within yourself to help give others the rights that you were born with.
